Queens native and top Shut am Luis Tolentino solidified a place in history at this year’s Tampa Am by tying the world record for the highest ollie at 44.5 inches held by Danny Wainwright. The real question is now which shoe company is gonna step up and make this kid into Air Luis, seriously. RadCollector linked up on the snowy streets on NYC to hear how the whole thing felt. Interview after the jump.
1. How the hell can you ollie so high?
I just love to ollie on high things and I probably just got used to doing ollies that high I guess.
2. Describe how you were feeling in Tampa, before the contest, during, and then right after you tied the record.
Before the contest I was a little nervous cause I don’t really skate ramps like that and I was also nervous cause I heard there was a high Ollie contest that was supposed to go down. I had no idea exactly when it was. During the contest I heard the announcers say that the high ollie contest was going to happen after everyone finished their heats. I was like what the hell! After a whole day of skating??? After the contest was the high Ollie and I wasn’t too sure about it but Reese Forbes kept getting me hyped up for it. After I did it I felt like I was in a dream.
3. Do you think you will hit 45 inches?
I never felt this confident about it. I think I can.
4. Any official plans to go for the record again?
Soon.
5. It’s winter in NYC, how are you dealing with that?
I’m just chilling in my Tim boots with the fam haha. Waiting for the next chance so I could skate.
