In a bold move that is sure to ruffle some of the elite old feathers of the Olympic Commission, Terje Haakonsen and a battalion of riders today signed The Snowboarding 180 Olympic Charter in Oslo, Norway. Basically it states that unless current non-FIS slopestyle events will count towards Olympic qualification, none of them will participate in the Olympics if Slopestyle gets voted in. Quicksilver and the ASP have announced that New York will be the 6th stop on the 2011 ASP World Tour. Long Island’s Long Beach will host the Quicksilver Pro New York from September 4-15 with the worlds best surfers competing for the million dollar purse. Now the East Coast isn’t known for its waves or cleanest water, but this is huge for the New York surf community to have the biggest pro surf event in the world right in its backyard.
Pro-BMX rider Nigel Sylvester and pro-skateboarder Stevie Williams, two of action sports most influential black athletes have joined forces to bring you The Takeover Tour. The traveling event will bring together the top talent in skate and BMX for a cross-discipline tour starting in the Summer of 2011. Burton announced today that Mini will be taking over as the presenting sponsor of the Burton Global Open Series. Consisting of the European Open (January 8-15 in Laax, Switzerland), the Canadian Open (February 1-6 at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary), and the US Open (March 7-13 in Stratton, Vermont) the events will be used as a a marketing platform for the new Mini Countryman crossover SUV. Mini takes over from Volvo which had been the major sponsor of the series for the last several years.
The Shaun White and Oakley Air & Style wrapped in Beijing, China this weekend with the $100,000 going to young Canuck contest killer Sebastian Toutant. Toots grabbed the cash, the ring of glory and 1,000 TTR points after stomping a cab 12 double cork that beat out euros Seppe Smits and Elias Elhardt who took second and third respectively.
