We’ve been telling you about the different aspects of project BLUE, the surf industry initiative to donate money from the sales of special product to the Surfrider Foundation. In addition to their other efforts, project BLUE has launched a contest asking people to take a picture of themselves in front of a shop that carries brands that are a part of project BLUE (Billabong, DAKINE, Electric, Famous Wax, Nixon, O’Neill and Reef) and then a second picture inside the store next to project BLUE merch. Shut, Vans, Dakine, Nixon, and Prizefighter are getting together to throw Chopper Dave’s 4th Annual Skate Jam at the Throggs Neck Skate Park in the Bronx on June 7th. This unofficial kick off to summer event has become a NYC tradition and brings out the best street skaters in the city looking to get noticed and brought up to the next level. One of europe’s biggest contests, the etnies European Skateboarding Championships, presented by Carhartt and Etnies will take place for the 9th time from the 06. – 09. of August 2009 in the Margarethen Kunsteislaufbahn in Basel, Switzerland! The theme seems to be something scientific, so expect a series of experiments in anti-gravity, human particle collisions and theories of relativity going on there. Today is a rather historic day in surf with the Nike 6.0 Lowers Pro jumping off at Lower Trestles in San Clemente, California. Historic why? Because its the first-ever 6-star PRIME WQS event to ever go down on the US Mainland. Sick. Nike 6.0 will be hosting a hi-def webcast with surf legend Koa Smith throughout the weekend culminating with the finals on Friday and Saturday.
Nike also enlisted surf artist and photographer, Eric Soderquist to create original artwork for the event and produced 100 hand-numbered Giclee prints. Full event info and some looks at the print after the jump.
