Edumacated BMX blog Defgrip has announced that they are linking up with the Bicycle Film Festival to present the BMX shorts category at the 2010 Bicycle Film Festival. The Defgrip crew will be curating the BMX category to help find the best up and coming or simply underexposed BMX filmmakers in the world. Their selections will be screened in over 30 cities across the globe, so it aint no joke. Deadline for submission is March 27, 2010. Go here for full rules.
Columnist Michael Cohen called this out already but we had to bring you the full trailer for the upcoming mega-flop Frozen just so you could see how bad it is for yourself. There are so many things about this ridiculous trailer to go in on that it’s not even worth it. Booo – no stars!
With such a nifty name, the NFFTY film fest has got to be pretty rad. Seriously though, Nike 6.0 joined forces with the festival to create an Action Sports Category that enables aspiring shredumentarians aged 22 and under to submit films for the Seattle event being held this April 29 through March 2. Here are the rules:
The action sports category is open to any short film (30 minutes or under) that represents, showcases or is inspired by Action Sports, including skateboard, snowboard, surf, moto, wake, BMX, or freeski. In order to meet eligibility criteria for NFFTY 2010: 1) the film’s director must have been 22 years old or younger at completion of filming; 2) all music and other copyrighted material used in films must be original or filmmaker must have obtained permission from the owner; and, 3) the film must be in English or subtitled in English.
The deadline for the action sports category is Feb. 15th and you can enter right here.
Converse Skateboarding and Thrasher Magazine have joined forces for what looks like is gonna be one banger of a film in Prevent This Tragedy. In anticipation of the mayhem the movie’s release is going to bring, both entities have linked up with NYC party-makers extraordinaire, Good Peoples to throw the NYC premiere tonight. Every year the Absinthe crew delivers one of the best films in shred. This year’s Neverland, featuring a mind-blowing cast that includes Travis Rice, Dan Brisse, Bode Merrill, Nicolas Müller, Sylvain Bourbousson, JP Solberg, Romain deMarchi, DCP, Marc Frank Montoya, Annie Boulanger, Marie-France Roy, Jules Reymond, Wille Yli-Luoma, Cale Zima, Phil Damianakes, Wolfgang Nyvelt, Kevin Pearce, Eero Ettala, and Gigi Rüf may be their greatest masterpiece to date. Despite being in only their third year, Stoked Mentoring has become firmly entrenched in both the action sports and philanthropic worlds as the dopest sport and lifestyle specific mentoring program in the world. Tomorrow night, founders Steve Larosiliere and Sal Masekela are back at the Red Bull Space for the Stoked Awards and honoring Quiksilver Chairman Bob Mcknight for his charitable contributions. Helping the the whole thing along will be Sal on host duties as well as Joy Bryant, Santigold, Edwin Delarosa, Trouble Andrew and DJ Jayceeoh on the decks. As part of the evening, director Matt Zuckerman and Berry Blanton will debut their short film “Leti’s Story” about a girl who’s life was changed by Stoked. This is pretty random but a great example of how shit just be poppin in the city. Shut Skate Mechanics sold out of the Deathbowl to Downtown DVD’s we told you about last week. Which isn’t much news in itself until you learn that none other than Nigel Sylvester got the last copy. Small world yo! They should have more in later this week.
Our friends at ESPN just posted a dope recap of Burton’s equally dope NYC premiere for their new flick The B. Following a track record of back to back bangers, Burton set this one off too with a three part affair that included an in-store at the Burton SoHo store with Jussi Oksanen, Kelly Clark, Freddi Kalbermatten, Mads Jonsson and Shaun White, multiple screenings at Tribeca Cinemas, and a gnarly after set at B.East. Buddy Nichols and Rick Charnoski’s epic telling of the history of New York City street skating has arrived on DVD at Shut Skate Mechanics on Orchard. If you walk in at the right time, you may even be able to score an autograph from Shut Founder Rodney Smith, who’s known to be on premises from time to time. Here’s what he said about the occasion. “Its a monumental event. NYC and the entire East Coast is now documented in the tablets of skateboarding history. Recorded and un-leashed in one fell swoop!
