In the latest dose, Tim Brodhagen explores the devastation that New York City’s Rockaway neighborhood is still enduring almost three months after Hurricane Sandy. He also interviews former pro snowboarder Lukas Huffman about his recent documentary “Surfing After Sandy,” which he produced with his brother Jesse. The brothers Huffman, whose last creation was the super rad series “Snowcraft,” have returned with an important piece of work dedicated to the recovery of NYC’s beachfront community, Rockaway Beach. “Beach 87th St. / Surfing After Sandy” details both the tragedy and the inspirational aspects of the neighborhood’s ongoing rebuild. Written and directed by Jesse and Lukas Huffman, the film also features images from Mikey DeTemple, Nick Lavecchia, Joe Carter, and Ryan Struck.

Independent snowboard cinematography is getting some NYC love this week as Vans and WeSC present the premiere for both of Videograss’ new movies The Darkside and Enlighten. Darrell Mathes will be in town repping for Videograss’ huge squad including Ben Bilocq, Chris Grenier, Danimals, Jake O.E., Joe Sexton, Johnny Miller, Jon Kooley, Jordan Mendenhall, Nick Dirks, Frank April, Alex Cantin, Dustin Craven, Bryan Fox, Will Jackways, Bode Merrill, Eero Niemela, and many more in what should be two of the years raddest releases. Burton Snowboards 13 Premiere NYC

Burton Snowboards turnt it up another level with the New York City premiere for 13 this past Thursday. Partnering with TheGoodLife! Burton transformed the storied Angel Orensanz Foundation for the Arts into a shred palace that fully demonstrated the diverse breadth of the snowboard massive. Models and artists mingled with bro-brahs and shop rats in the 1830’s era synagogue while plied to the tilt with complimentary PBR and Smirnoff for a lineup that included DJ Smoke L.E.S., DJ A-Dog, Roofeeo from TV on the Radio, a burlesque fashion show, the movie premiere and then full sets from Flatbush Zombies and the RZA. Terje Haakonsen, Mikey Rencz, Mark Sollors, and Ethan Deiss were on hand for the madness along with everyone from Jake Burton and Shaun White to Daria Werbowy and even Ol Dirty Bastard’s son Boy Jones.
