There is some good stuff in the works for NYC this weekend as part of the New York Surf Film Festival. Topping that list is a screening of Quiksilver’s amazing documentary film about Clay Marzo, Just Add Water. Cursed by a condition, Aspergers Syndrome, that may very well be the reason for his unbelievable talent, Clay Marzo is at 20 already one of the most interesting people in professional surfing. The film unspools at Tribeca Cinemas on Saturday September 26 at 6pm and will be followed by a benefit auction for Surfers Healing at the Quiksilver store in SoHo. For advance tickets to the screening go here. Full info after the jump.
RadCollector is especially proud to support the inaugural fundraiser for Brooklyn’s Hoods to Woods Foundation. Founded by Brian Deka Paupaw, the auteur behind the film of the same name, Hoods to Woods has a mission to empower inner city youth through experiences outside of the city, especially on a board. The fundraiser, going down this Friday, September 25 at Gallery 112 in Manhattan will include a film screening and open bar. Come out and support this uniquely rad cause. Full info and some dope stills from the film after the jump.
Even though most locals think surfing is when teenagers ride on top of subway cars, New York City has it’s very own festival of surf films. Yep, this weekend will kick off the second ever New York Surf Film Festival at Tribeca Cinemas. Featuring a selection of feature and short-format films including several world and US premieres, the NYSFF also has a bunch of dope filmmaker Q&A’s planned following some screenings. For full schedule go here.

The new issue of Updown has E-Man Anderson on the cover with a pretty gnarly gash in his face that has a lot of people wondering. “Hollywood magic?” The answer, of course, is heck no, they’re Canadian. So in response they’ve released this behind the cover video to set the record exactly straight. Speaking of E-Man – you can peep his part and the entire movie of This Video Sucks at either the ThirtyTwo, Stepchild, Transworld, or Onboard sites starting yesterday. The video doesn’t really suck.
It has been announced that Machotaildrop will be part of the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival. Not a new extreme Taco Bell menu item, Machotaildrop is a feature film by Alex Craig and Corey Adams that according to the festival guide is “equal parts surreal comedy, fable and indictment of our co-opting, logo-glutted culture – and 110 per cent just plain weird – Machotaildrop is only tangentially related to other skateboarding movies.” Sounds rad. Go here for times. Via Club Mumble.

As we told you before with the release of the Todd Selby x Nike 6.0 Ben Horan shots, Nike 6.0 is going big into wakeskate. As a major jumping off, they will premiere their first-ever wakeskate movie, Aquafrolics, starring Horan, Nick Taylor, Matt Manzari, Andrew Pastura, James Balzer, and Silas Thurman in Orlando on Saturday, August 22 as part of the Surf Expo weekend. No longer wakeboarding’s little brother, wakeskate has evolved into a sublime artform owing way more to skateboarding than to wake any day. Won’t be in Orlando? Not to worry. Aquafrolics will be available in its entirety on the 6.0 site later this month. Stay tuned for more on this growing movement.
