On Saturday April 2, The NYC skate community will come together to remember and celebrate Harold Hunter’s birthday and to raise money for the Harold Hunter Foundation. From noon to 3pm Garden Skate indoor skatepark will host the NYC All Stars skate jam before the party moves to The Blind Barber in the LES for an after party featuring DJ’s Smoke LES and Hiro. Akomplice has joined GoodWood NYC and Chace Infinite for the latest update of the Africa Piece. Girl Skateboards held its 9th annual open house in Torrance, California to give back to the kids & community. The festivities included free In-N- Out, free tattoos, and mad games. The Transworld guys were out there asking people what there favorite part of the day was. Electric continues their dedication to project BLUE campaign with the release of three new polarized models. As always, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the Hoy Inc., OHM III, and Mutiny will go to support the more than fifteen ocean-focused non-profit organizations under the SIMA Environmental Fund, which includes the Surfrider Foundation. Nixon has just dropped a limited edition version of their Lodown tide watch, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Defend Oahu Coalition. Decked in the colors of the Hawaii state flag, the back case is engraved with Defend Oahu’s rally cry “Keep Country COUNTRY!” Available only at select Nixon retailers in Hawaii.
The Stoked Awards took place Wednesday night at the Redbull Space in NYC. The annual event honored Airen & Jose, the 2010 Stoked Mentoring Pair of the Year, and emphasized once again how much of a positive impact learning how to skate, snowboard, and surf with a caring role model can have on a teenager’s life. Additional award winners included Mazdack Rassi of Milk Studios for his financial, space, and time donations to Stoked; Meg Hale who met Steve Larosiliere when Stoked was just his dream and helped him make it a reality; and Rita Wadhwani who has volunteered for Stoked since 2006 providing event management and over $80,000 through fundraising for Stoked’s LA chapter. Now in its fifth year of operation, Stoked, our favorite youth organization, is having its annual fundraiser and award ceremony, the Stoked Awards, on Wednesday, November 10th at the Red Bull Space. This year’s Stoked Awards will be honoring Mazdack Rassi, Founder and Creative Director of Milk Studios, with the Stoked Achievement Award for his years of support for the organization. Other awardees include the Mentoring Pair of the Year Airen Renner and Jose Rios, Volunteer of the Year Rita Wadhwani, and Appreciation Award recipient Meg Gilsten Hale. DJ Brooklyn Dawn will be holding down the music all night and rumor has it that the VIP gift bags are gonna be dope!
