There is definitely alot of hype around “How to Make it in America,” HBO’s new downtown NYC-based series. Whether the show makes it or not remains to be seen but one thing is for sure, they really went the extra mile in the marketing. Aside from the Green Lantern mixtape and the Alife hats, they’ve gone so far as to produce the pro model deck of the skateboarder character Wilfredo Gomez and are selling it on HBO.com. Since Javier Nunez plays the yet-to-appear character, it only makes sense that Shut made the decks. There’s another Shut connection too, Creative Director Eli Gesner is a consultant. Von Zipper has just released complete looks at its Facemelt collection which dropped its first two styles this week. The collection is based on the Snark and Elmore frames and comes in acid trip colors like swampjuice, purple fog, tangerine dream, and fufuberry surprise. 3D is everywhere these days; movies, TV sets, and now skateboarding photography book. Photographer Sebastian Denz and Carhartt have just dropped SKATEBOARDING.3D, a photography project involving team riders Scott Bourne, Giorgio Zattoni, Pontus Alv, Hugo Liard, Gabriel Engelke and Olly Todd shot all over the world in 3D. Taking inspiration from the beauty found both in the endless concrete of Brooklyn and the persistent sunshine of Rio de Janeiro, Caranguejo do Norte flipped 6.0’s newest skate silhouette to represent Beleza or “Beauty” in Portuguese. The Mavrk Mid 2 is now available as part of the Nike iD program. To kick off it’s launch, Rad Collector and Nike 6.0 will give the first three people to holler at us on Twitter the chance to customize their own pair. Vans and Crooks & Castles are finally dropping their long awaited Classic Chukka in Epi Leather with Crooks accents. The all black colorway will obviously be a hot commodity. Burton also gave Rad Collector the exclusive first look at their sick Meat Eaters Collection. Done completely on the low and so limited that only a handful of core shops will have them, the Meat Eaters Collection was housed in a bloody red stuffed-bear strewn closet accessible to most only through the peephole above. We got inside to check out the Board Amazing, which comes with two-dimensional bindings already on the board and a Truth sticker that never comes off, the Sweet Talker, a gnarly “I don’t give a fuck” board, and the Road Soda collabo with Cheech and Chong, which might just be the best snowboard graphic of the year.
