The second installment of the “Art of the Craft”, an original short series by Starbucks Doubleshot showcases the creative energy of surfboard craftsman as they tell their stories of building one-of-a-kind custom, high-end surfboards is now live. In part two, Martijn Stiphout, owner of Ventana Surfboards, tells us what inspires him as he creates some of the world’s most beautiful boards. Roxy Girl Lee Ann Curren was in NYC last week capping off the first ever North American tour for her band Betty the Shark. While in town she linked up with Timbo to talk surf, music and what it’s like to be the daughter of one of the raddest surfers of the 80’s.

Man you’ve really got to hand it to whoever came up with the “Real” video competition concept for X Games. Not only is it the best part of X by far but now that surfers have a version, shit is getting weird. This bronze medal winning edit by Dion Agius for Brasilian X Games at Foz do Iguacu is fucking amazing on every level. Pretty crazy that no snowboarder ever thought to put a hot girl in their part, eh?

Ever see those grimier hipsters who refuse to use a proper boardshort to go into the water, preferring instead to rock twill shorts or cutoff jeans knowing damn well they’re going to be wet and stinking the rest of the day? Yeah you know who we’re talking about. Well this year, Matix has used sublimated printing to virtually clone a pair of cutoff Dickies 874 pants into a bona fide lightweight surf trunk that should be on a required gift list for every single one of those dudes. New York newsprint surf magazine, The Usual has collaborated with Patagonia for its latest issue the “Bowery and Beyond” edition which will be released to coincide with Patagonia’s first East Coast surf store opening this Spring on the Bowery. Globe forayed a bit from their comfort zone with a launch party in LA at American Rag for their new shoe collab with surfer Dion Agius, the Los Angered.
