Amidst all the chaos of Vancouver, Nike 6.0 threw a mellow rail jam on the sun soaked slopes of Mt Seymour called Greatest Hits last weekend. With the ocean and the city skyline sparkling in the background, local Van shredders got to hit full scale recreations of the Red Ledge, Burlington Double Set, and a BC Electrical Box while Louie Vito, Greg Bretz, and Elena Hight got to have their first chill-out day on the hill all year. Here’s Greg and Louie as well as some of the action from the day. Read more on ESPN.
Pat Moore stopped by the Shut shop in NYC today to show off his new pro model goggles with Electric. Featuring an ultra-wide lens and a super sick Live Free or Die strap, Pat’s gonna be reppin his Granite State extra hard next season. A look at Pat rocking them from columnist Michael Cohen after the jump.
Last Saturday, Mt Seymour in British Columbia and Nike 6.0 opened up the Greatest Hits Park with the famous Red Ledge from Montmorency Falls in Quebec City. Local rippers like Justin VDP, Chelsea Armstrong and Corey McIntosh sessioned the ledged while heads partied alongside. The next feature to be opened will be a BC Electrical Box and the final feature, opening on February 20th, will be the Burlington Double Kink. Stay tuned for more.
Showing their continued dedication to core shredding, Nike 6.0 has created the Greatest Hits project at Mt. Seymour, British Columbia. For the next month, Nike 6.0 will be recreating three legendary shred spots at Mt. Seymour, starting this Saturday, January 30th, with the Red Ledge from Montmorency Falls in Quebec City. Not necessarily anti-Olympic, Greatest Hits is more of a reminder that snowboarding is way more about homies than medals and flags and each fabricated spot is being chosen through an online vote at Nike6.com. Spot #2 is a BC electrical box and spot #3 is still TBD. 6.0 and Mt Seymour are also throwing in lots of treats during each session. We’ll have more on this throughout the month. Full info after the jump.
The snowboard world lost a dear friend with the tragic passing of legend-in-the-making Jeff Anderson in 2003. To commemorate what would have been his 30th birthday on November 2, a wide family of artists, shredders, companies and individuals have come together for a weekend of activities in Jeff’s honor and to benefit the JLA Memorial Fund. For more on the JLA I Am Snowboarding project or to get involved, go here. It all goes down November 12, 13, and 14. Full schedule after the jump.
Continuing the rollout of dope products helping to clean the oceans, Electric has released their contribution to the project BLUE campaign. Proceeds from both the Meter (pictured) and the G.Six will go to “coastline protection initiatives worldwide.” If you need new glasses, it’s hard to argue against buying these. Check out the G.Six after the jump.
DC today announced that they are adding Jolene “Nitro Girl” Van Vugt to their elite moto x team. In doing so, Jolene, who you might know as the looker on MTV’s “Nitro Circus” has broken the gender barrier to become the first woman on DC’s moto squad. Originally from Canada (like everyone else on TV these days!) Jolene’s appointment comes with a packed resume of accomplishments including being the first female to backflip a full-sized dirt bike. She’s also got a grip of Guinness World Records and sponsors like Alpinestars, Fox Racing, Electric Visual, EVS, Ogio, and Giant Bikes. A look at her without the helmet after the jump.
Nike 6.0 has another rad limited edition kick coming down the pipe. This time it’s their new Braata model hooked up by the artist Mark Paul Deren (a.k.a. Madsteez) and his protege Evan “Stink” Rossell. Done up in an electric green, purple, yellow, and black with glow in the dark laces and a clear sole laid over custom artwork by Madsteez and Stink, the Stinkween Braata will hit in super limited quantities right in time of the US Open of Surfing. These joints will get you noticed. Jack’s Surfboards has just put them up for pre-order here. More images after the jump.
We’ve been telling you about the different aspects of project BLUE, the surf industry initiative to donate money from the sales of special product to the Surfrider Foundation. In addition to their other efforts, project BLUE has launched a contest asking people to take a picture of themselves in front of a shop that carries brands that are a part of project BLUE (Billabong, DAKINE, Electric, Famous Wax, Nixon, O’Neill and Reef) and then a second picture inside the store next to project BLUE merch. If your pic is chosen you win some project BLUE gear and get to ride a high horse about how you’re so much more pro-enviro than your friends. Easy enough eh? Send entries to contest@betruetoblue.com. For more contest info go here. Contest runs until June 9 so gets to snappin.
On a more tranquil side of the spectrum a consortium of seven leading surf brands have combined to form project BLUE, a special line of co-branded goods, the sale of which goes to the non-profit Surfrider Foundation. The participating brands are Billabong, DAKINE, Electric, Famous Wax, Nixon, O’Neill and Reef.
We have a couple of pieces from Billabong and O’Neill to show you here. The Billabong Supersonic boardshorts are made from the company’s proprietary Eco-Supreme Suede material, made from recycled plastic bottles. According to the company more than three million plastic bottles have been diverted from landfills to become Billabong boardshorts in the last three years. The O’Neill Atmosphere hoodie and tee are made from organic cotton and printed using soy based inks. Take a look after the jump.
