Redbull Snowscrapers Results

07 February 2009, 03.47 | Posted in Events, snowboarding | 1 comment »

Rad Collector - Snowscrapers
Redbull’s long awaited Snowscrapers went down in NYC last night. Despite bitter cold, close to 30,000 people mobbed the East River Park to catch Shaun White, Travis Rice and Pat Moore huck for a $50,000 top prize. The overall event was definitely the best snowboard competition the city has hosted but unfortunately the riders were not able to pick up enough speed to attempt the tricks that would normally be required to win an event with a purse of this size. Rumor has it that a NYC ordinance prevented them from making the jump any bigger. Regardless, Terje Haakonsen’s one-footed method air against the city skyline was an epic moment. In a nod to the next generation of shredders, relatively unknown underdog Shayne Pospisil came out of no where to beat both Shaun White and Torstein Horgmo in head to head competition and take the $50k. The best part, he’s from right across the river in Jersey. Full Results after the jump.

Safe Spot Skate Spot LA

07 February 2009, 01.13 | Posted in Skate Parks, Skateboarding | No comments »

Rad Collector - Safe Spot Skate Spot
Earlier this week we told you about Rob Dyrdek’s new MTV show, well its not the only thing he’s been up to. Already well known as a dude who gives back to the skate community, Dyrdek and the DC Shoes Skate Plaza Foundation have announced that they are opening the Safe Spot, Skate Spot at Lafayette Park in Los Angeles at the end of this month.

Safe Spot, Skate Spot is really dope program that helps cities create legal, cost efficient skate spots that complement the city’s pre existing urban landscape. For the Lafayette skate spot Dyrdek worked with both Newline Skate Parks and California Skate Parks to hook up over 7,000 square feet of skateable terrain complete with ledges, benches and stairs. Interestingly, Carl’s Jr hamburgers put up the money for the spot, hopefully to offset at least a few of the millions of fat grams they put into kids everyday, right?

Check out the Skate Plaza website for updates and official opening date. More renderings after the jump.
