beleza1 540x299 Rad Collector x Nike 6.0 x Caranguejo do Norte
Rad Collector linked up with Nike 6.0 and the Brooklyn-based label Caranguejo do Norte to create these 1 of 1 “Beleza” 6.0 Mavrk Mid 2’s. Taking inspiration from the beauty found both in the endless concrete of Brooklyn and the persistent sunshine of Rio de Janeiro, Caranguejo do Norte flipped 6.0’s newest skate silhouette to represent Beleza or “Beauty” in Portuguese. The Mavrk Mid 2 is now available as part of the Nike iD program. To kick off it’s launch, Rad Collector and Nike 6.0 will give the first three people to holler at us on Twitter the chance to customize their own pair. More looks at the “Beleza” Mavrk Mid 2 after the jump.

Snowboarding Is Legal in Brooklyn

deka 540x326 Snowboarding Is Legal in Brooklyn
In a resounding victory for shredders all over the globe, the NY Daily News reported today that New York City park officials had reviewed the comments made by park officers in response to the incident in Brooklyn that we reported on last month in which park police shut down a jib session by claiming that snowboarding was illegal in New York city parks and the city of NYC as a whole. As suspected, it was total horseshit and based on the video posted by Rad Collector and other outlets, the Parks Department has formally declared that they were in error, saying “The statement that it is not permitted at all is not accurate, and our staff has since been advised otherwise,” and adding that snowboarding is permitted in parks, just as sledding and cross-country skiing are allowed when weather permits. Case fucking closed. At the epicenter of the brouhaha was Rad Collector columnist Brian Deka Paupaw. Read the article in its entirety here after the jump.

Park Police Vs Snowboarding

23 December 2009, 22.20 | Posted in WTF, snowboarding, videos | 3 comments »

In a move so cliche that it’s laughable, park police in Brooklyn rolled up on an impromptu mellow jib session in Fort Greene Park, smashed the jump and told everyone they would get summonses for snowboarding because it is illegal in New York City. This all in the face of the fact that the NYC Parks Department has gone overboard in the last few years courting shredders with events from the Union Square Street Sessions to the Redbull Snowscrapers. This cop was apparently on a donut break during those events. From start to finish she’s got lines so dumb, you’d have a hard time making them up. Cops apparently just live to hate on the shred. Parlez vous Francais, mon amor, merci, oui oui, bons bons and all that good stuff. Homage Brooklyn and UXA are joining forces to present their annual “Fete Du Skateboard” at Brooklyn’s Bastille Day on Smith Street in Cobble Hill tomorrow. There will be a manny comp, best trick, and highest ollie amidst french fries and frog legs at what is definitely the best french-themed event in the city. This is probably a good year to enter considering NYC’s reigning ollie champ, Luis Tolentino, is in Europe at Bright. Via Shut.
