One of europe’s biggest contests, the etnies European Skateboarding Championships, presented by Carhartt and Etnies will take place for the 9th time from the 06. – 09. of August 2009 in the Margarethen Kunsteislaufbahn in Basel, Switzerland! The theme seems to be something scientific, so expect a series of experiments in anti-gravity, human particle collisions and theories of relativity going on there. As every year more than 300 skateboarders from over 20 nations are expected to examine the new streetcourse build by IOU-Ramps. More information on this event on www.skateboardeurope.com

This June, etnies will be releasing an update of their classic “Screw” model. A short form of “Screw You,” The Screw originally came out in 1993. The update’s a bit slimmer and the black/grey colorway (pictured) comes with etnies’ special e-Suede oil treated friction-reducing fabric. A bunch of looks at the Screw after the jump.

Last September, the Etnies Recognition Tour hit Japan. Now Etnies just finished a nice little video of their team’s Japan visit. Watch Kyle Leeper, José Rojo, the amazing tech kid Tyler Bledsoe and the getting-better-each-minute stylemonster Sean Malto and a good bunch of their japanese fellows ripping the Nippon-Spots. etnies made history as the first skateboarder-owned shoe company, first taking over Europe and then coming across the pond to make big moves in the States. Now one of the largest and well known brands dedicated to skateboarding and more, etnies is recreating their classic model the Rap. Last week the Sole Technologies family was in NYC for a series of events including the launch of the etnies Plus x LTD Weldon and set up the etnies space in SoHo as their headquarters. In addition to previewing the Fall 09 collection, Sole Tech Founder Pierre Andre Senizergues’ Jet Set Lounge Chair from his Skate Study House Collection was on site offering a bit of eco-comfort for the weary. Skate Study House is a concept that blends “mid-century design, skateboard culture and the California lifestyle” in producing recycled high end furniture and housewares. Skate trainers definitely seem to be going big for ‘09 with brands like DVS and C1RCA putting out joints that can arguably hang with Nike or New Balance. You know etnies is on it too and their Lo-cut 2.5 for Fall 2009 is proof. Funky but not chunky, the black/brown/green colorway is particularly banging. The 2.5 also comes in black/white and assorted.
