Last week Vans celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the most iconic skate shoe in the world, the Half Cab. The House of Vans in Brooklyn played host to the event where partygoers enjoyed art, music, skateboarding and a special guest appearance by the man of the hour, Steve Caballero. Last night Vans & Steve Cabellero celebrated 20 years of the most iconic shoe in skateboarding, the Half Cab. Brooklyn’s House of Vans was filled with guests that enjoyed a night of music, art and skateboarding that will lead up to the first ever Bowl-a-Rama NYC this weekend at Pier 62 Skatepark. Twenty years, twenty skaters, twenty photos and one shoe, was the premise for the opening reception of the Vans Downtown Showdown Amsterdam. Featuring live music from Ray Barbee, Tommy Guerrero and Chuck Treese, DJ sets from John Cardiel, artist-customized Half Cabs from over 20 contributing artists selected by Steve Caballero as well as the first European exhibition of TWENTY, curated by Lance Dawes, a selection of photographs of some of the world’s greatest skateboarders wearing the world’s greatest skateboard shoe as captured over the years by some of the world’s greatest skateboard photographers.

Eric Dressen expresses himself through his skateboard loudly and fast, but always in control. When not skating, he’s quiet and would rather not be at the center of attention. Since the late 70’s, Eric has been rolling on his board all the while following the code of conduct set by fellow skaters from Santa Monica and Venice. A kid when the Z-Boys were in their prime, their antics truly inspired and shaped his explosive skating talent. Eric was featured in Skateboarder magazine at age ten, turned pro at the age of twelve and years later became the back-to-back World Street Champion in 1987 and 1988. He can skate any type of terrain with confidence; pools, pipes, streets, ditches, parks, ramps.

For Spring 2009 Vans Syndicate worked with Eric Dressen on a pack. It pulls a direct influence from the classic fedora – a symbol of pride and honor – in a way that was not too obvious. The rich felt overlays, ribbon quarter panel, gold leaf custom lettering, and gold satin linings makes the subtle statement in perfect detail.

The Eric Dressen Half Cab “S” is available in black, brown and gray and will be released at premium retailers beginning of March.

A nice new pack by Vans has been released. The pack consists of a Chukka Half Cab and an Era, both coming with black uppers in leather and suede, yellow stitching and a yellow/black design on the mid sole. The pack is now available at ABC Mart.

After presenting you yesterday the Vans Forty-Four Hi “East Coast vs West Coast” Pack and the Hosoi Legends Pack, we give you a preview today of the Spring 2009 Usugrow collaboration by Vans.

The pack consists of three sneakers – AV Sk8 Low, Sk9 Hi Pro and the Half Cab Pro. All three come in premium black leathers and feature a good amount of tonal embroidered details, created by the Japanese artist. The shirts complement the shoes and vice versa.

Look out for the Vans x Usugrow Pack at selected retailers in the coming weeks.

The Skatepark of Tampa x Vans Half Cab has finally been released. Using premium suede and croc skin on the upper, the sneaker comes in a strong color combination, using red and green as accent colors on brown.
