Redbull’s long awaited Snowscrapers went down in NYC last night. Despite bitter cold, close to 30,000 people mobbed the East River Park to catch Shaun White, Travis Rice and Pat Moore huck for a $50,000 top prize. The overall event was definitely the best snowboard competition the city has hosted but unfortunately the riders were not able to pick up enough speed to attempt the tricks that would normally be required to win an event with a purse of this size. Rumor has it that a NYC ordinance prevented them from making the jump any bigger. Regardless, Terje Haakonsen’s one-footed method air against the city skyline was an epic moment. In a nod to the next generation of shredders, relatively unknown underdog Shayne Pospisil came out of no where to beat both Shaun White and Torstein Horgmo in head to head competition and take the $50k. The best part, he’s from right across the river in Jersey. Full Results after the jump.

“Deathbowl To Downtown” is a new movie presenting the evolution of skateboarding in New York City.
“Along with San Francisco and Barcelona, New York is arguably the modern street skating city, both in reality and image. Because of the unique background, experience and perspective of the film’s creators and the decision to “cast” the city of New York as one of the main characters, Deathbowl to Downtown promises to be an unprecedented, seminal film.
Like Rick and Buddy’s other work, Deathbowl to Downtown goes deeper than ‘just’ skating to combine documentary with an incisive and artful exploration of skateboarding and its culture. On one level it’s about street skating, but also an anthropological overview of skating’s epochal shift from the parks and pools of the 70’s, to ramp skating in the 80’s, to the street ascendancy of the 1990’s as seen from a New York-centric perspective.
With interviews covering the oldest school originators to the newest school up steppers, comprehensive and much of it never-before-seen video footage, and present-day film shot by Nichols and Charnoski, ‘Deathbowl to Downtown’ addresses broader issues: How changes in urban planning and design affected skating (and vice versa), the unexpected late 20th century shift of cities from places normal citizens feared to tread, to tourist destinations, and the parallels between the modern history of American cities and skateboarding. That is, the way New York, and skateboarders, went from being ignored and reviled through 70’s and 80’s to being accepted and celebrated. An entertaining, eye opening, thought provoking take on why the action on New York’s dirty, grimy, and hectic streets represents skateboarding to millions of skaters and non-skaters worldwide.”
Definitely a very interesting movie to be looking out for. On their website there are nice photos and clips to check out. Via Keith Hufnagel.

Amongst Friends is a crisp new line out this Spring. Though the line was developed by Mikol Stambough, it is much more a true collaborative effort between Mikol and his close friends which “utilizes the resources that develop through genuine friendships.” Hence the name of the line.
Looking to address the consumer who is looking for less impact in their wardrobe, Amongst Friends is catering to make “clothes that people want to wear, not that they should wear.”
The line is currently offering a t-shirt line which uses a comfortable and sustainable cut as well as a well received New Era cap collection. Rounding off the line is a cut and sew offering which heavily influenced by golf wear. With this offering Amongst Friends is looking to provide a happy medium between “prep and street.”
Amongst Friends Clothing can be found at fine retailers around the world and right on your computer at www.boundlessny.com

The Dave’s Quality Meat (DQM) Holiday 2007 collection has been released. The collection consists of t-shirts, caps, a baseball jacket as well as a “Your Mother collaboration” on some t-shirts and skateboard decks. This series is an ironic take on the amount of collaborations in our industry.
The new DQM Holiday 2007 collection will be released December 14th. After the jump more pictures.
