Queens legend in the making Luis Tolentino already runs NY with the Shut crew, but has now finally started to come into that out of state shine. Shut has another fall banger hitting shops right now, the Wallpaper pro series. Featuring decks with Todd Jordan (8 X 32.0625), Tony Manfre (8 X 32.125), Javier Nunez (7.75 X 31.5), and Felix Arguelles (7.5625 X 31.5) illustrated with spooky haunted house-looking light fixtures and wallpaper, these joints should correspond nicely with the upcoming Hallowe’en holiday. Fifty-two bones in case you were wondering.
Buddy Nichols and Rick Charnoski’s epic telling of the history of New York City street skating has arrived on DVD at Shut Skate Mechanics on Orchard. If you walk in at the right time, you may even be able to score an autograph from Shut Founder Rodney Smith, who’s known to be on premises from time to time. Here’s what he said about the occasion. “Its a monumental event. NYC and the entire East Coast is now documented in the tablets of skateboarding history. Recorded and un-leashed in one fell swoop! Bravo Rick and Buddy!” Not surprisingly, copies are already flying off the shelf. A couple more images of Shut’s shipment after the jump.
NYC skate godfather and Shut founder, Rodney Smith recently linked with his old friend Johnny Schillereff from Element to take part in the Element Shaper Program or ESP. The Shovelnose and Stinger are two of six Smith did for the project. RadCollector connected with him today for some words on the series.
There is a rapidly growing market for Longboards, alternative shapes and construction. This all means many different riding styles and disciplines for skaters worldwide. Johnny seemed intrigued in the position Shut is taking to meet these changes and thought to test the waters by doing a collaboration.
Read the whole conversation and check out some more pics after the jump. Rodney Smith for Element ESP is available now at select Element dealers.
Shut’s Todd Jordan, Luis Tolentino, and Javier Nunez are in for a tough one this week. The three are heading to the Cayman Islands to arguably the illest skatepark in the world for the grueling task of hosting a session of Skate Cayman, the Cayman Island’s skate camp. In it’s first year, Skate Cayman has already had Shaun White, Bucky Lasek and Greg Lutzka and will be featuring Tosh Townend, Rune Glifberg and more in addition to the Shut crew before the end of the summer. Skate Cayman goes down at Black Pearl a 52,000 literal skate paradise. That’s way better than X Games, no?
Parlez vous Francais, mon amor, merci, oui oui, bons bons and all that good stuff. Homage Brooklyn and UXA are joining forces to present their annual “Fete Du Skateboard” at Brooklyn’s Bastille Day on Smith Street in Cobble Hill tomorrow. There will be a manny comp, best trick, and highest ollie amidst french fries and frog legs at what is definitely the best french-themed event in the city. This is probably a good year to enter considering NYC’s reigning ollie champ, Luis Tolentino, is in Europe at Bright. Via Shut.
The Hype BR, Brasil’s leading lifestyle blog featured Brooklyn’s Boundless in their news section today. The Hype BR’s founder Lucas Penido stopped through on a recent visit to NY and chopped it up with Boundless CEO Nick Langella about what’s poppin at the shop. A full service skateshop and lifestyle boutique at one of the dopest locations in BK, it’s no wonder that Boundless is catching that international love. Brands called out in the pictorial include Shut, King Stampede, Deathwish, Baker, Manik, Girl, Vans, Huf and more. Check out the entire piece here.
Osiris, Shut, Stereo, Krooked, Dakine, Real, Mystery and more are combining forces to throw the best damn bowl jam of the summer.
