The last thing to come from the massive Tony Hawk Show x Quiksilver 40th anniversary jumpoff in Paris last weekend is this limited edition deck by Andre. Far doper than your average limited edition but still mass produced piece, these decks were hand painted by Andre on-site at the Grand Palais and were only available to people who were there. As long as Andre’s star continues to rise and Tony Hawk doesn’t murder anyone, or even if he does, these are gonna be worth some loot.
Between X Games and everything Danny Way does, it would seem that skateboarding could go no bigger. Well with Tony Hawk at the helm of the massive Quiksilver empire on their 40th anniversary you best believe, anything can and did happen. The preview shots we showed you did no justice to the scene at the Grand Palais once it was filled with funk of thousands of spliff rolling French people. Imagine the Smithsonian in Washington or City Hall in NYC mobbed with drunken shredders going off. That’s right you can’t, because it would never happen. But that’s the beauty of France, anything goes. The day started with a street contest dominated by Bastien Salabanzi followed by Eero Antilla, and Chris Pfanner but then quickly escalated into all out craze, first with a fashion show featuring 40 of Quik’s top athletes like Kelly Slater, Travis Rice, and Alex Olson, and then onto the main event. With Busy P on the decks, Tony, Sergie Ventura, Jesse Fritsch, Andy Mac, Sandro Dias, Jean Postec, Kevin Staab, and Lyn-Z Adams gave a once in a lifetime performance that included a rare 900 from Tony and Lyn-Z’s first ever McTwist. When the show was over, every major athlete in the Quicksilver organization and about 1000 lucky beautiful people and shred-heads got to party til almost dawn to the sounds of Mix Master Mike and the ambiance of a maison du burlesque. It was off the hook. Hit up ESPN Skateboarding for additional photos and video or stay here and hit up some more pics after the jump, either way is all good.
The Tony Hawk Show is only a few hours away and Paris is on fire like it’s the World Series and the SuperBowl combined. It’s crazy, everyone has skate fever and the venue is close to being the sickest of all time, for real. Check out these preview shots from the Grand Palais that illustrate just how bananas this thing is going to be. More after the jump.
The Tony Hawk Show is set to ring off at the Grande Palais in Paris tomorrow night. It’s going to be epic and we’ll have lots of coverage for you. For now, here’s a peek at the mural Andre did for the event. He also painted mad other stuff around the venue and will be painting live tomorrow while Tony and friends skate Europe’s biggest halfpipe of all time. More looks at the mural after the jump.
On Saturday night, the International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC) held their first ever ceremony to induct Tony Hawk, Tony Alva, Bruce Logan, and Danny Way into the Skateboarding Hall of Fame. In true skate fashion, the event was much less abut the inductees, who have all certainly locked in their legacy as legends, and more about the various causes and charities surrounding it including the Go Skateboarding Foundation, The Tony Hawk Foundation, Ray Underhill, the Johnny Romano Foundation, and the Patrick Kerr Foundation. Congrats dudes.
Next month in Paris, his Hawkness is taking it up yet another notch with the Quiksilver Tony Hawk Show set to pop off at the Grand Palais, one of the city’s most epic venues, and one never before used for a private event. Tony and a cadre of shredders including Kelly Slater, Travis Rice, and Dane Reynolds will be joined by the artist Andre who will be doing live painting on what is being billed as Europe’s biggest skate ramp ever. There are only 5,000 seats available for this monumental event. Swiss magazine 7Sky happens to have two of them and will hook them up to the person that sends them “the most beautiful phrase you’ve ever heard of, or you’ve invented” before November 2. No pressure there right? To give it a shot go here. Or you can try to buy a ticket right here. More on this to come.
Tony Hawk, several action sports luminaries, Blink-182 and a grip of Hollywood big shots got together last weekend at billionaire Ron Burkle’s crib to throw a fundraiser for a new skatepark in Watts. Hollywood is so fresh, only there could you be this dude and still get picked to host fundraisers. It really is like whatever, though, as long as the kids get something good out of it. ESPN’s Josh Brooks made a fun little video from the occasion. Check it out.
Quiksilver’s got a rad new take on viral video with their new clip called The Spot. What begins as a normal Quicktime skate clip morphs unexpectedly into an all out assault on your browser by Tony Hawk, Reese Forbes, Alex Olson, Danny Garcia and Kyle Leeper a la Indian in the Cupboard. It’s great! Check the whole thing out here.
