In some huge news for east coast snowboarding, Burton has announced that after 30 years, they are moving the US Open from Vermont to Vail, Colorado. Although Vermont’s old guard and especially Stratton Mountain have got to be seriously bummed, the truth is that the event had no room to grow and was unrealistically reliant on Vermont’s sporadic Spring weather to compete with Dew Tour and X Games. We’ll miss it though.
All the media attention may have shifted to the Euro X Games but visually, historically, and culturally, the 30th anniversary of the US Open was the highlight of the 2012 season. And by culturally we mean the parties of course. TheGoodLife! was in full effect at this year’s Open and just posted an amazing gallery of photos from Craig Wetherby. Check them out here and hit the jump for a dope video recap from DJ A Dog who played throughout the weekend including opening for Red and Meth.
In addition to our photo recap, Radcollector editor in chief Tim Brodhagen put together this episode of dose with his top 5 experiences at the US Open this year. The 30th did not disappoint and the list includes shredding with Jake Burton, appearances from Red & Meth and Jim Jones & Louie Vito, the Washed Up Cup with Ross Powers, and the world exclusive of the Blotto Photto Insta Pop-Up Photo Show.
Vermont based clothing brand eesa has flipped some of their moisture wicking, anti-microbial socks into beer koozies and are distributing them at the US Open of Snowboarding this weekend. That’s a nice promo item. Check out some more koozies as well as a sneak peek at some of their 2010 socks after the jump.
With the US Open finals only a few days away, TTR has put together a recap video of the tour’s top ten riders of 2008/09. Check out Shaun White, Peetu Piiroinen, Mason Aguirre and the rest shredding and politiking on their chances of winning the title this year. Via GrindTV.
